The Classic
A focused introduction to aerotow, release, quiet flight, and a glider landing.
Your first launch
A tow. A release. Then the quietest view in Western New York.
Not a simulation
Climb behind a towplane, release over the Genesee Valley, and discover what a sailplane can do with nothing but altitude, air, and a pilot who knows how to use both.
Flights depend on weather, field conditions, aircraft, tow capability, and qualified volunteer availability. A request is not confirmed until the club responds.
A focused introduction to aerotow, release, quiet flight, and a glider landing.
More altitude and more time to take in the valley, the aircraft, and the feeling of soaring.
The signature experience: a vertical mile of tow before the sailplane heads home.
Published prices can change; confirm with the club when scheduling.
The sequence
Meet the field team, complete required paperwork, and review the day’s conditions.
Learn cockpit entry, restraint, controls to avoid, signals, and what to expect on tow.
The towplane accelerates the glider and climbs to the selected release altitude.
After release, take in the quiet, the view, and how efficiently the aircraft moves.
Return through a planned pattern, touch down, then ask every question you collected aloft.
Closed-toe shoes, flexible layers, sunglasses, and sun protection.
Water, schedule flexibility, and details about fit or mobility needs.
Loose objects can become hazards. Ask before using a camera or mount.
