Curious? Good.

Everything most visitors want to know before their first day at the field.

Do you offer scenic glider rides?

Yes. Flights are normally available on weekends from May through October, weather and aircraft availability permitting. Prices begin at $110 for a 2,000-foot tow. See ride options.

How old must you be to fly?

There is no minimum age for beginning instruction, though many students start around 12. FAA rules allow a student to solo a glider at 14. A legal guardian must be present for riders under 18.

Do I need previous flying experience to join?

No. Membership is open to people genuinely interested in soaring and participating in a cooperative club. Instructors teach from the beginning.

What makes a cooperative club different?

Members help run each flying day—launching aircraft, logging operations, maintaining equipment, and supporting the field. This shared work keeps costs lower and creates a strong community.

Do instructors charge for lessons?

Club instructors volunteer their time. Members pay the applicable aircraft, launch, and membership costs rather than a separate instructor fee.

How long is a scenic ride?

A 2,000-foot tow typically produces about 15 minutes from takeoff to landing. Actual time varies with weather and lift.

What should I bring?

Bring sunglasses, water, weather-appropriate clothing, and closed-toe shoes. Avoid bulky bags in the cockpit. Plan on spending roughly two hours at the field.

Can weather cancel a flight?

Yes. Glider operations depend on wind, visibility, precipitation, field conditions, pilots, and aircraft. The club confirms whether operations can proceed safely.

What does it take to earn a glider certificate?

Requirements depend on age and certificate level. Training covers flight proficiency, aeronautical knowledge, solo experience, a knowledge test when applicable, and an FAA practical test. See the training resources and confirm current requirements with an instructor.

Where are you located?

At Dansville Municipal Airport, 3 Forbes Street, Dansville, NY 14437. Open directions.

How do members access schedules?

The public operations page explains the schedule. Authenticated acknowledgements and schedule changes remain in the current member system during migration.
